Vendil will show a portion of her work-in-progress, "Islander" (working title). “Islander,” is a music and movement suite scored for various keyboard instruments, kulintang (Philippine gamelan), and electronics, and incorporate Filipino folk song and dance, appropriated Spanish dances, and fashion. The work will closely examine the residue colonialism has left behind, the permanent and alterable state of identity, and lost and found culture. Vendil’s longtime collaborator, composer Trevor Gureckis, will score electronic elements. Along with Vendil, pianists Melinda Faylor and Mary Prescott will perform.
